Protein 

Indian food has always been known for being low on protein, especially vegetarian. The truth, is that most people are unaware of the high protein vegetarian food in India.While looking at protein from vegetarian sources, you should also remember that consuming one source of a plant is not enough you need to consume a healthy mix of plant proteins to get all the benefits of all  9 different amino acids present in animal proteins.

Dal and legumes:

Adding a lot of lentils and pulses to your diet such as Moong Dal, Rajma, Chana Day and Soybean can benefit you in more than one way.  You can sprout them and use them in salads  . You can also pair them  with brown rice to make a complete meal.

 

Vegetable Khichdi:

The classic dish  to utilize the goodness of both lentils and rice is to make the good old khichdi. It is a comforting and wholesome meal.

Quinoa

Quinoa is a South American grain which has recently gained popularity as a very high source of  protein. Although the indigenious South Americans have been using it for thousands of years. You can use it in Indian preparations such as a pulao or upma as a replacement for rice.

 

 

Paneer or Cottage Cheese:

Paneer is the ideal high protein ingredient for dinner. You can have it grilled as Paneer Tikkas or make a simple paneer bhurji with roti. Paneer stuffed Dosa is also a great option.

 

Tofu:

If you are looking for an alternative to Paneer, you can choose tofu.Tofu tikkas are a delicious and high protein dish.You can also try a tofu stir fry clubbed with other seasonal veggies like beans, carrots and broccoli.

Kala Chana:

Kala chana is a staple Indian source of plant based protein. You can make a quick kala chana chaat or use them to make sookhe kale chane that can be had with rotis to make it a meal.
